Shokz ambassador Hellen Obiri Claims Bronze
For Hellen Obiri, the Kenyan distance runner, a world champion many times over, the finish line is merely a new beginning. Obiri isn't one to settle for two silver medals. Her hunger for progress fuels every step, every rep, every grueling session. She had her sights set on the ultimate prize. After years of relentless effort, Obiri achieved her goal and proudly stood on the podium at the Paris Marathon 2024.
Obsessed with Progress
A distance-running powerhouse, Obiri has firmly established her legacy in track and field history. At 34, she stands out as a unique talent, being the only woman to claim World Championships gold indoors, outdoors, and in cross country.
As a two-time World Champion in the 5000m, she has demonstrated her global dominance. Her recent achievements, including victories at the Paris Marathon in 2024, the Boston Marathon in both 2023 and 2024, and the New York City Marathon in 2023, reinforce her position as a marathon champion.
Though she has earned two silver medals in the 5000m in Rio and Tokyo, her gold-medal victories at the World Cross Country Championships and her consistent success in the Diamond League highlight her remarkable versatility and competitive drive. As one fan aptly noted, “She has been a leading runner across various distances for years. Her sportsmanship is exceptional, and her attitude and confidence are truly inspiring.”
From Humble Beginnings to GOAT
Obiri's journey to distance running wasn’t a straight shot. She began on the school tracks of Kenya, running the 200m and 400m, and even ventured into netball before rediscovering her true athletic calling. It was the 2000 Olympic 1500m Champion, Noah Ngeny, who first noticed her potential. Under the guidance of coach Ricky Simms, a shift to the 1500m marked the beginning of her track career.
Yet Obiri, ever the seeker of new challenges, was never one to rest on her achievements. In 2022, she took a daring step by moving to Colorado and joining coach Dathan Ritzenhein's programme to tackle a new challenge: the marathon.
This transition raised some eyebrows, but Obiri thrived on surpassing expectations. Her innate talent and unwavering dedication soon manifested in remarkable marathon success.
