Born in Wonju, Gangwon Province, South Korea, Jisub Kim began his running journey in high school, encouraged by his father. What started as a hobby quickly evolved into a pursuit of purpose and excellence.
Following his service as a sergeant in the Republic of Korea’s elite Special Forces, Jisub found a new mission in the mountains. His background forged a mental and physical toughness that translated seamlessly into the trail running world. In 2013, he burst onto the international scene with a third-place finish at the Gobi Desert Marathon.
Since 2019, Jisub has followed a vegetarian lifestyle, complementing his mindful approach to training and competition. His rise in the sport has been both consistent and impressive. In 2023 alone, he secured third place at Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji KAI 70km and took the win at The North Face 100 Gangwon 100km. Most recently, he opened 2024 by claiming first place in the 33km Hong Kong 100, further cementing his status as a top athlete in Asia.
By June 2022, he had already topped the 20km Asia rankings used in UTMB® qualification — earning his place among the sport's elite.
Jisub’s story is one of discipline, resilience, and relentless spirit — from the rigor of military life to the solitude of the trail, he continues to push his limits and redefine what’s possible.
