Mathieu Blanchard, Born on December 3, 1987, in Cavaillon, Mathieu Blanchard is a celebrated French professional athlete, excelling in the demanding discipline of ultra-trail and mountain running. His extraordinary journey from engineer to one of the most accomplished endurance athletes in the world continues to inspire fans of all backgrounds.
Raised in Guadeloupe, Mathieu’s childhood was steeped in the ocean, where he developed a passion for scuba diving. But it was in Montreal, where he moved after completing his engineering studies, that he discovered his true calling. His first winter jog in frigid -20°C temperatures sparked a lifelong love for running and launched a career that has since redefined limits.
Mathieu’s relentless pursuit of excellence has propelled him to the pinnacle of ultra-trail running. His 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary, with victories at the MaxiRace, the Marathon de Muzelle, and the famous La Diagonale des Fous, where he conquered the grueling landscapes of Réunion Island. These monumental achievements solidified his reputation as one of the sport’s elite.
In 2024, Mathieu also embarked on an audacious adventure across the legendary GR20 in Corsica, a 180-km route renowned as one of the toughest trekking trails in Europe. This self-imposed challenge, blending exploration and endurance, epitomized his boundless spirit and connection to nature.
As if his 2024 triumphs weren’t enough, Mathieu began 2025 with a groundbreaking victory at the Yukon Arctic Ultra, an extreme polar race across the icy wilderness of Canada’s Yukon glaciers. Battling sub-zero temperatures and brutal isolation, he not only completed but dominated this unforgiving challenge, proving his resilience and adaptability in one of the world’s harshest environments.
Mathieu’s career has been punctuated by incredible milestones, including podium finishes at the UTMB, an unforgettable performance at the Western States Endurance Run, and record-breaking expeditions such as his 2020 feat on the GR A1, where he covered 650 km across Quebec in unmatched time.
Beyond his athletic prowess, Mathieu’s charisma and drive have made him a public figure, especially after his participation in the French show Koh-Lanta, “Les 4 Terres.” Though his adventure on the show was cut short, it expanded his reach far beyond the sports community, connecting him with fans from all walks of life.
Now based in the heart of the French Alps in Les Deux-Alpes since 2023, Mathieu continues to deepen his relationship with the mountains that fuel his passion. With his ever-growing list of accomplishments and his unwavering dedication to pushing boundaries, Mathieu Blanchard remains a true icon of ultra-endurance and an ambassador of the human spirit’s limitless potential.
